Carmel is a vocation... a call to a deep prayer life based on the Eucharist, the Scripture and the Liturgy of the Hours... thereby fulfilling the scriptural mandate to "pray constantly." We pray at intervals during the day, obeying the Lord as he tells us: "Be still and know that I am God." Thus Carmel is seen as a family that seeks divine intimacy and its members are contemplatives living a prayerful presence in our modern world.

The individual members are expected to be active in the apostolate according to the gifts and capacity given by God.

• We follow Jesus Christ as brothers and sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, called together by the Holy Spirit; we live as Elijah in the presence of God; we serve the needs of the Church and each other in love.
• Carmelites live according to a Rule of Life. The Rule for monks was composed over 700 years ago and approved by the Holy See. The Rule for the laity and nuns was composed over 500 years ago and approved by Pope Nicholas V in 1455. The Lay Carmelite Rule was updated after Vatican II and approved by Rome. It is in effect to this day.

• Because of the rich diversity of gifts and ministries in the Church, not all are called to Carmel.
• To be received, a person must be at least 17 years of age, male or female, a Catholic in good standing with the Church, and be open to formation in Carmelite spirituality. The candidate must have completed nine monthly two-hour instructions prior to reception into the Order.

The Community meets monthly for instruction in the Carmelite spiritual life, prayer, sharing, and vocation affirmation. Due to the requirements for membership in the Order, the community meetings are NOT open to visitors.
